The "K-Mart Grease Pot" is something of folk hero in the world of ultralight backpacking. This small aluminum vessel was designed to hold and strain bacon grease for the home. However, some clever backpacker one day realized that at only 3.2 ounces and $6, this pot might make for a perfect piece of gear at a fraction of the price of fancy titanium cookware. I raise a spork and a mug to that anonymous soul, for the K-Mart Grease Pot has been my go-to vessel for backcountry cooking thanks to the word-of-mouth advocacy that had to start somewhere.
I only write haikus inspired by gear I use, respect, and appreciate having the luxury of owning. I am not paid, compensated, or even given this gear. I purchased all as a regular consumer. If that changes in future haikus, I will disclose.
Where to buy (no affiliation or relationship with this site):
In the cookware section of K-Mart for about $6 or on Amazon for $9.
